Tour Preview

After yesterday’s rehearsal, our director Euan Terras presented our North America Tour Preview.

This is the first chance for the players and their parents to see all of the places we will be visiting next year, find our where we are staying and performing and which sites we will see along the way. The parents also get the opportunity to ask the tour adults any questions they may have.

Christmas Fayre

One of our favourite fundraisers of the year has to be the Christmas Fayre.

We have stalls selling everything from children’s toys, books and jewellry. As well as the bottle stall and tombola.

Two’s Company Concert

Another annual event for the orchestra the Two’s Company concert in Ayr Town Hall which features AFO and the Dalmellington Brass Band along with two local primary school choirs.

Quiz Night

Quiz night proved to be the most popular night we have had, a great turn out filled the hall.

They was entertainment from a small group of the orchestra, the tour adults provided a great selected of food for guests to enjoy.

AFO Race Night!

AFO’s fundraising racenight is fast approaching! When: Saturday 24th Sep Where: Northfield Bowling Pavilion, Ayr. Tickets (£5) can be ordered at rehearsal or get in touch with us via the website. You can name & sponsor a horse for £10. Hope to see you there....

Cycling for Hout Bay

Following the overwhelming success of The Great Scottish Run last October we are planning another fundraiser this year for The Hout Bay Music Project.

We are going to be following part of Cycle Route 7 which includes a stretch between Glasgow and Ayr and this event will be happening on Sunday 18th September.

Ayr Flower Show 2016

It was a sunny day for AFO at the Ayr Flower Show, which was as busy as always.

The orchestra don’t do many concerts during the school summer holidays, but the Ayr Flower Show is always an exception, we receive a great reception.

New session 2016! Come and join in.

AFO rehearsals for the new session start on Saturday 20th August – looking forward to welcoming back all players, and hopefully welcoming some new players too! Please spread the word to any of your fellow musicians to come along and join the AFO...

24 Hour Play in Live part 3

The final 10 hours felt very long, but maybe that was because I had been awake for about 27 hours by that point. There were 3 groups throughout the day playing for 3 hours at a time in the Church. I was a very warm day, the sun was shinning and the beach across the street was very busy.

24 Hour Play in Live Part 1

The night started with a free concert in Troon Old Parish Church at 7pm.

The lovely sunshine didn’t stop many from coming through the doors to listen to the orchestra kick off the fundraising event. All the players were very energetic, but this was just hour 1 after all, there was still a long way to go.

Summer Concert 2016

Tickets are now available for our annual summer concert in Ayr Town Hall!   Make sure you don’t miss out, you can get tickets from the Ayr Gaiety Box Office.   It will be a full night of music from the ever growing Ayrshire Fiddle Orchestra.   We hope to see you there  ...

24 Hour Play-in

Get ready everybody because our first major fundraising event in preparation for our upcoming tour to North America is happening soon. We will be having a 24 hour Play-in / Ceilidh starting on Friday 3rd June and ending on Saturday 4th June in Troon Old Parish Church in Troon.

Dunlop Church Concert

The Ayrshire Fiddle Orchestra were honoured on Friday 13th May to be asked
to play for the first time in Dunlop church. To add to the enjoyment of the
evening the Gill family very kindly offered to host a BBQ for all the
players before the concert.

AFO in Arran

Our annual trip to Scotland’s Holiday Isle was last weekend. We left Ayr at 11am for the 12.30pm ferry from Ardrossan to Brodick, give our Concert in Whiting bay Hall with our guests The Arran Fiddle Club, and then stay overnight in the superb Arran Outdoor Education Centre in Lamlash.
