Our next international tour will be to Japan in July 2019 – this promises to be one of the most exciting tours, both culturally and musically, that the Orchestra has ever undertaken!
Research and planning has already been underway for several months and our contacts are being established throughout Japan. Plans for our performances are under discussion and all positive so far. We will be undertaking a short recce early in 2018 to further confirm our plans and our itinerary.
We have been working with Enterprise Scotland and all our contacts thus far are extremely excited to have the opportunity of linking up with Scots traditional music and with the AFO!
Our itinerary will take us to Tokyo, Mount Fuji, Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima and of course a trip on the famous Bullet Train! We will be looked after throughout the trip by an experienced tour guide company based in Japan which specialises in group travel for young people. They also provide translators!
Of course, an AFO Tour wouldn’t be complete without a visit to a theme park and Japan has some of the best in the world!
We will be holding an information meeting and presentation for parents and players following the recce early in 2018.
To help subsidise this cost per player, we will be holding a number of fundraising events over the coming months and the support of all players and their parents is expected. Fundraising events organised in the lead up to the Tour will include sponsorships, prize draw tickets, smarties tubes filled with 20ps, and fundraising events such as the Silent Auction, Ceilidh, Christmas Fayre etc.
