Strings 'n' Things with the Maybole Pipe Band

MAYBOLE PIPE BAND. Maybole Pipe Band was founded in 1925 and is a self-supporting band performing regularly at events in Soutb Ayrshire. They have travelled frequently to Germany and France and performed in Dubai and Sicily. The Band always seeks to encourage new members and teach new players who will ensure tbe continuation of the Band in tbe years to come.


NEIL ADAMS. Neil started playing the violin in 1989 under Wallace Galbraith's tuition. He joined tbe Ayrshire Fiddle Orchestra in 1992 and led tbe Orchestra from 1997-1999. Alan, his fatber, has accompanied him at several concerts as well as on this recording. Neil is now studying engineering at the University of Stratbclyde in Glasgow and plays witb several groups including tbe University Big Band and Orchestra.

CRAIG AND BRIAN MACDONALD. These talented brothers started playing the accordion at tbe age of 5 and 6 and have won many competitions and trophies at various accordion and fiddle events resulting in appearance on the BBC's 'Take the Floor'. They both also play the fiddle and are continuing to develop their unique sound.

VAL WILSON. Val is an up-and-coming young soloist who already has a number of amateur productions to her credit. She puts her fiddle aside to record the vocal for "Flower of Scotland" on this CD.

COVER ILLUSTRATION. This violin was owned by William Gregg the dancing master at the Bachelor's Club in Tarbolton during the years that Robert Burns was a member. Recently restored, it is now in the care of The National Trust for Scotland at Culzean Castle in Ayrshire. The tartan is Hunting Mclnnes.
